As it is necessary to beat time in order to produce correctly the measured rhythm of modern music,so also is it necessary to beat time if it be desired to produce perfectly
To do this correctly it is necessary to know where the rhythmical thesis ox ictus occurs. In the Solesmes editions of the chant, this is marked by a little perpendi­cular stroke placed above or below a note (See Appendix.) But where the thesis is not so marked,as in Dominican books, it may be found, if the following rules be attended to.
group forms a Pressus with the note following, for then the thesis falls on the first note of the Pressus.
